Don’t Be a Soft Target

Self Defence Course Noosa Sunshine Coast

All of us need to be aware about what is going on around us.

Just watch the news and you will see what I mean.

The World has just got even more dangerous with the attacks in France, the situation in Turkey and in the US, the Middle East etc.

Without being paranoid, I just want you to take this on board; you never know, it might save your life.

I am making this the first of my posts in a series of understanding self defence PRINCIPLES.

First one is AWARENESS.

By being aware you make yourself a ‘Hard Target’ – did this during my time in the military and made sure I and my soldiers implemented appropriate drills, tactics and actions resulting in us becoming hard targets.

When the enemy see that you are ‘switched on’ mobile, aware, confident, professional and organised and observing the above then the probability of them firing at you, blowing you to pieces with IED’s, booby traps and so on is vastly reduced.

Most likely they will wait and attack a ‘patrol’ ‘unit’ that is ‘slack’.

The enemy want to be successful and don’t want to get caught so they will go for the ‘slackers’.

On the street and when we are going about our everyday lives; we need to make ourselves less of a soft, easy target for criminals.

So make sure you become a hard target.

Get switched on by being:

  • Alert
  • Confident
  • Walk with purpose
  • Aware of what is happening around us
  • Positioning in relation to others and in relation to structure
  • Distancing – don’t let anyone into your personal space
  • Not displaying items of value – jewellery, mobile phone, tablets
  • Locking the car once inside
  • Locking doors and windows of your home
  • Being prepared with keys in hand to unlock front door entry to house and car.

Remember, don’t offer yourself as an easy target/victim to a potential attacker.

Just put yourself in the way these people think.

Next time you go into a public place like a cafe or shop, position yourself next to a window and look out onto the busy street and observe people’s behaviour.

I guarantee that the majority, if not all of who you see will be totally oblivious to what is going on around them.

Some will be talking on their mobile phone, some will be texting, some will be thinking ahead or thinking back to what they are going to do when they get home or what they did when out with friends the night before.

And so it goes on.

All you need to do is be the opposite of what they are doing in order to safeguard your life.

So make yourself a HARD TARGET and not a soft target.

By the way, talking about targets and targeting…

I show you how to be a hard target on my next course.
